Energy Psychology

Energy psychology methods gently and swiftly release traumatic events that are frozen in time in the body-mind system. These events can negatively influence how you see the world, experience emotion and relate to others.

Energy psychology (EP) is a family of integrative approaches to psychotherapy, coaching and healthcare treatment rooted in mind-body healing traditions that are over 2,500 years old. EP methods blend the bio-energetic insights of these traditions with the best of contemporary psychological practice, and have been refined through 35 years of modern clinical experience with millions of clients throughout the world.

Individual Therapy

Therapy is a healing adventure. People usually seek therapy because something isn’t working in their lives and they want to feel better. Our life experiences are carried in our body and are triggered as we move through our lives. Causing us to re-experience the felt sense of the past. Sometimes it is good feelings but sometimes the feelings are painful. These painful feelings can affect our mood, can contribute to physical pain and dis-ease. As we explore the dynamics that contribute to our discomfort we can learn better ways to comfort and heal ourselves.

I help adults recover from childhood and adult trauma with the use of body centered therapies. Unresolved trauma often negatively affects our relationships, careers, and physical/mental/emotional/spiritual health. People who have experienced trauma are often doing the very best they know how to deal with the emotional and physiological response to what has happened to them. People often don’t realize the struggles they are having in their lives can be linked to things that have happened in the past. They try to change their behavior with little to no success, or easily fall back into old habits.

I teach people research based techniques that have been shown to be effective in the treatment of trauma. Some of the tools I use are Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) – also known as Tapping, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Body Centered Mindfulness.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

EFT, developed by Gary Craig, utilizes the ancient wisdom of acupressure points along with active and reflective listening to assist the mind and body to heal. It includes many techniques that are easy to learn and can be used on your own. Research has shown that EFT is effective in reducing stress, levels of cortisol, depression, chronic pain, anger, and anxiety. It is effective in the treatment of trauma and has been listed as an effective secondary treatment for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by the Veterans Administration.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family System therapy developed by Richard Schwartz helps us create a cooperative healing relationship with ourselves by developing a deep nurturing relationship between our internal Self and the parts of us that hold the memories of our past and the parts that protect us. It teaches us to listen and pay attention to the internal messages we experience as emotion, thoughts, physical sensation, or pain. Listening helps us become aware of our internal wisdom and our innate healing capacity. During this process painful memories from our past can be released and we can then invite back or restore our true essence.
